Bethesda Softworks snags Star Trek license

You just knew Bethesda Softworks had more up their sleeve than Elder Scrolls. Today they announced the acquisition of rights from CBS Consumer Products to publish a series of Star Trek games on consoles, PC and heldhelds. Two games will be released this September to coincide with the series’ 40th anniversary, Mad Doc Software’s Star Trek: Legacy for Xbox 360 and PC, and Star Trek: Tactical Assault for Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

Of course we’re more interested in the ManRoom-friendly Xbox 360 offering that promises real-time tactical space battles on both small and large scales. Single player mode will follow a storyline that includes all of the Star Trek series, and online play will be included to test your space warship strategy against your buds. Also promised are dynamic three-dimensional battlefields with graphically stunning space environments filled with fully realized nebulas, wormholes, planets, and stars.

Knowing Bethesda Softworks, we suspect a dedicated website will go live shortly with additional screens and video. More as it develops.
