Michael Bay recently appeared on Starz’s In The House and commented on a few questions surrounding the upcoming production of Transformers 3.
One of many gripes that followed the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was that it was nothing more than a glorified version of the original. Bay explained he will not rehash what has already been done by introducing new characters, a “lot” of twists and new elements.
With many big Hollywood action franchises going the 3D route, Bay admits he is testing the possibility but has not yet given into the pressure. “It’s a process we’re testing with some ‘Transformers’ scenes,” Bay said. “How successful it is with my movie in terms of a lot of real stuff coming out of the frame, real dirt, real complicated little particles coming towards the lens, because hopefully that process will work. I’ve seen some tests that look great on other movies. I just want to see how it looks on my footage.”
His comments do not answer whether Transformers 3 would be shot in 3D or converted after-the-fact like some other films including Warner’s upcoming Clash of the Titans is. Assuming Paramount and Bay go the 3D route, I’d vote for the former and point towards Avatar as evidence for why it is the right choice.
