Battlefield 2: Modern Combat drops to April, demo announced

Rumors began flying today surrounding EA’s Battlefield 2: Modern Combat after a message appeared on developer DICE’s website stating the game was being delayed until April for unknown reasons. Some member of the press speculated it didn’t stand a chance against Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter while others thought there were technical issues to contend with.

The truth, as distributed by EA this afternoon, is that the game is complete and has been delayed until April 11 to align it in the best possible launch window. The decision is purely marketing-based, no doubt to avoid the scores of other releases that will begin their assault on ManRooms beginning next week.

In addition, EA let us know a free multiplayer demo will appear sometime in mid-March in the Xbox Live marketplace. Ironically this is the same original release date window so even though you won’t be able to buy it March 15, you’ll still get to play it.
