Barbarella Remake Fires Back Up

Producer Dino De Laurentiis and his wife Martha are set to produce a remake of 1968’s Barbarella that starred Jane Fonda as the titular outer space mercenary.

Robert Rodriguez began the Barbarella remake project back in 2007 with Universal set to distribute and Rose McGowan lined up to star. A script was completed but the director and studio parted ways after a shooting location could not be agreed upon.

For round two of getting a Barbarella remake off the ground, a new script will be penned by Joe Gazzam whose only completed writing credit is John Carpenter’s Riot, set for release in 2011. He will reportedly keep the sensuality and seductions the character is known for but drop the cheesiness and shoot for an all out adventure film.

The Ugly Truth’s Robert Luketic is already on board to direct. A timetable has not been set for release.
