Fox Home Entertainment has dated the hyped Blu-ray Disc and DVD release of Avatar Extended Collector’s Edition for November 16 in North America and November 15 in other territories. That’s the same day Paramount is releasing the other Avatar, The Last Airbender on Blu-ray and DVD.
The three-disc Blu-ray and DVD sets will include three versions of the film: the original theatrical cut; the special edition re-release with 8 additional minutes that ran briefly in theaters this past August; and a new collector’s extended cut with another 16 minutes added and an alternate opening. If that were not enough new footage, an additional 45 minutes of deleted scenes are also included.
All the Avatar versions on Blu-ray will be presented in 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. A Blu-ray 3D version is expected to be available exclusively this December bundled with Panasonic 3D hardware, and individually at retail sometime in 2011.
