Chances are if you know someone who owns a Blu-ray Disc player, they already own James Cameron’s Avatar on Blu-ray.
Fox Home Entertainment has issued a press release declaring the April 22 release of Avatar on Blu-ray has racked up 2.7 million copies sold in North America in just four days. That tops the previous record of 2.5 million units of The Dark Knight sold over the course of 18 months.
Thus far, Avatar has sold through over 6.7 million copies of the Blu-ray and DVD versions. At this pace, it could conceivably become the best-selling home video release of all time. The impact of Avatar on Blu-ray Disc hardware sales has yet to be measured.
