Ron Moore and David Eick’s Battlestar Galactica made a big splash on Blu-ray last summer when Universal Studios Home Entertainment released the complete series in a 20-disc box set.
But was it really complete?
Just a couple months later the final piece of Battlestar entertainment, The Plan, went direct-to-video. Without it the complete series set was not so complete. Maybe that was “the plan” after all.
The Battlestar Galactica: Complete Series Blu-ray set was sold as a limited edition release in special packaging with a pack-in Cylon figure. It is no longer being manufactured though is still available at retail. With Syfy’s Caprica now in full swing, it makes sense to have Battlestar available for newcomers to discover well into the years ahead.
Today we learned Universal intends to release a new complete series Battlestar set on Blu-ray April 6, the same day season two debuts on Blu-ray, that is not tagged as a limited edition. This set will include all four individually packaged season 1-4 box sets housed within a new outer case. The Plan will also be included and presumably Razor as well, though we cannot fully confirm the latter at this time.
This new Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series set will carry an SRP of $299.95 or $50 less than the previous set listed for. On-shelf pricing should settle in around the $200 mark.
We’ve got our eyes open for a first-look at the new outer case packaging and will pass it along once acquired.
