Aliens: Colonial Marines Release Date Slides into 2013; New Trailer Unveiled

Aliens: Colonial Marines Release Date Slides into 2013; New Trailer UnveiledSEGA and Gearbox Software have finally offered a substantial update regarding the fate of Aliens: Colonial Marines, the much-anticipated first-person shooter that serves as a direct sequel to the movie Aliens. With the update comes good news and bad news, though ultimately the good outweighs the bad.

The good news is SEGA and Gearbox have committed to a release date for Aliens: Colonial Marines on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and we assume Wii U considering it appeared on Nintendo’s E3 sizzle reel for the upcoming new console at last year’s E3. This is the first indication of a concrete release date and it looks like Gearbox is intent on making it stick.

The bad news is we were all expecting to play Aliens: Colonial Marines this holiday season and unfortunately that card is now out of the deck. February 12, 2013 is the worldwide release date so go ahead and mark your calendar.

There’s one more bit of good news to share. SEGA and Gearbox released an all-new Aliens: Colonial Marines trailer called “Suspense” that looks like a fairly significant jump in polish from the lackluster live demo I witnessed at E3 in 2011. It’s all in-game assets, though most of the footage looks to be of the cut-scene variety. Hopefully SEGA will offer up some hands-on time at this year’s E3.
