24 Returning to Fox Next Summer as Miniseres with Kiefer Sutherland Starring

24 Returning to Fox Next Summer as Miniseres with Kiefer Sutherland StarringThis morning Fox Broadcasting Company officially ordered 24: Live Another Day that will extend the heroic deeds of agent Jack Bauer into another action-packed day. The miniseres event will premiere in May, 2014 and run through the summer.

Kiefer Sutherland has already inked a deal to return as Jack Bauer. Joining and reteaming with Sutherland is the original series showrunner Howard Gordon. Additional casting announcements will not be made until a later date.

Previous season of 24 were 24-episodes in length with each designed to take up one hour of a 24-hour period. 24: Live Another Day will also span a 24-hour period, however the episode order is for 12, half of what it used to be. In theory each episode would cover approximately two hours within a day.

Sutherland had been campaigning for 24 to return as a movie for several years but the project could never seem to get off the ground. This was before the Kickstarter phenomenon so one can only imagine how such a popular show would have been received. I would guesstimate somewhere between $5 and $10 million earning.

Fox Chairmen Gary Newman remarks in the press release that Gordon had him at “hello” when he came in to pitch his idea for another season of 24. If Fox bit so easily on the concept of Live Another Day, it makes you wonder why three years passed before the creative ball got rolling.

Sutherland’s schedule was recently freed up to work on 24: Live Another Day when Fox’s Touch was not picked up for a third season.

Gordon promises that the “Jack we know and love will be back,” and that the series has evolved to “reflect how the world is changing.” No plot details have been released at this time.
