You Won’t See the Next Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer at D23

We thought we were so close. With Disney’s big D23 event going this upcoming weekend in Anaheim the stage was set for Lucasfilm to potentially unveil the next Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens trailer in front of a few thousand screaming fans in Hall D23.

Sadly it was not meant to be.

EW prodded Episode 7 director J.J. Abrams about the next trailer as part of a huge cover story on the film that just came out in the most recent issue, on newsstands now. Abrams didn’t beat around the bush with his answer and likewise silenced millions of fans who thought they were less than a week away from more new The Force Awakens footage.

“It is true, we are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise,” Abrams told EW. He then added a glimmer of hope,”In the fall, there’ll be a trailer.”

As for why no new trailer, Abrams explained in the most simple and obvious terms. “We’re thrilled to go to D23 and meet the fans, but it’s a tricky thing to try and rush [footage] for a convention or preexisting event that would, of course, be fun to show something at,” he said.

While we won’t get a Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer at D23, rest assured that a new trailer is on the way and I would expect it to arrive no later than the end of September to take advantage of the big merchandising blitz that begins on September 4.
