Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water leads all films with 13 nominations including Best Picture. Other films in the Best Picture category include Call Me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, The Post, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Our pick to take home the Best Picture Oscar is Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Working against our prediction is the lack of a Best Director nod for Three Billboards. Up for an Oscar in this category are Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water), Get Out (Jordan Peele), Lady Bird (Greta Gerwig), and Paul Thomas Anderson (Phantom Thread).
Best Director is a tough call and we’re going to go with Greta Gerwig by a hair over Guillermo del Toro.
Best Actor nominees include Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Daniel-Day Lewis (Phantom Thread), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour), and Denzel Washington (Roman J. Israel, Esq.).
Daniel-Day Lewis feels like the front-runner here, especially with this being supposedly his final film. As such, he’s nearly impossible to pick against.
Best Actress nominees are Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards), Margot Robbie (I, Tonya), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), and Meryl Streep (The Post).
There’s no easy pick in Best Actress as all the performances were standouts. You could play something like the top 6 Lucky Street offers and have just as good of odds. I’m going to go with Saoirse Ronan as her time has come for the recognition.
The start time for the 2018 Academy Awards ceremony after all the celebrities cruise down the red carpet is 8:00 pm EST / 5:00 pm PST.
