The LEGO Movie Sequel Taps Community Director Rob Schrab to Steer the Ship

Warner Bros. has locked up veteran Community, Parks and Recreation and The Mindy Project television director Rob Schrab to helm The LEGO Movie Sequel for his feature film debut and recapture the charming comedy that the original blockbuster film under the direction of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller so wonderfully presented.

The LEGO Movie Sequel, currently the official name that Warner Bros. is using for the film that has also been called The LEGO Movie 2, is expected to catch up with Emmet several years after the events of the first film. We will learn that Emmet has a sister and that his human owner has grown owner, a similar theme that has played out in Pixar’s Toy Story films. Other plot details are being kept under tight wraps.

Lord and Miller developed The LEGO Movie Sequel story along with Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan. The LEGO Movie producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee are returning to co-produce alongside Lord and Miller.

“We are so excited to collaborate with Rob,” Lord and Miller offered in a joint statement. “He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years.  No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project.  People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!'”

The LEGO Movie Sequel is currently scheduled for release in 2018. Next in the LEGO movie universe is Ninjago on September 23, 2016, followed by the untitled LEGO Batman movie in May 2017.
