‘The Batman’ Director Officially Announced as Matt Reeves

Warner Bros. Pictures officially announced that The Batman director will be none other than Matt Reeves, the man whose name has dominated rumors of late. Reeves will also serve as a producer on the film.

The past two weeks have seen a lot of uncertainty surrounding this high profile DC Films project. It started when Ben Affleck dropped out of the director’s position citing a need to concentrate solely on the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Shortly thereafter trades reported that Warner Bros. had a short list of replacements and Matt Reeves was their top choice. Talks were underway and presumably a quick offer had been made.

A few days later Reeves reportedly backed away from those talks, though those rumors were never confirmed. More than likely discussions continued behind-the-scenes until an official agreement was reached.

“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.” – Matt Reeves

Reeves is best known for his genre work on the remake of Let Me In, Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He’s currently working on post-production for the Apes sequel, War of the Planet of the Apes.

Warner Bros. has not set a timetable for when The Batman will begin filming or be released. Joe Manganiello is already on board the project to play villain Slade Wilson/Deathstroke.
