Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens has officially been given a PG-13 rating for “Sci-Fi Action Violence.” This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been the various trailers and TV spots depicting blood on Finn’s (John Boyega) helmet, stormtroopers being blown up by attacking X-Wings, and Finn exclaiming “h-e-l-l no” to Han Solo (Harrison Ford).
In a sign of the times, The Force Awakens joins Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith as only the second Star Wars film to land a PG-13 rating. The other five Star Wars films were all rated PG. Given the subject matter of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, I would expect that anthology film to be given a PG-13 rating next year.
Elsewhere in Star Wars: The Force Awakens news, Empire Online has seemingly wrapped up their massive streak of exclusive imagery from the film with six character-centric covers, a special subscribers cover, and a new still from the film featuring Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). Poe has been playing second fiddle to Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in much of the marketing so it’s nice to see the Resistance pilot get his due on an Empire cover.
Poe is also featured in a new still that comes from a scene we’ve had a sneak peek at before. In it a stormtrooper, possibly Finn, is escorting a captured Poe through a Star Destroyer.
