The writing has been on the wall for when we’ll see the next Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens trailer since last year. Only a fool or a fool who followed him would bet against Lucasfilm and Disney not taking advantage of the potential record breaking opening weekend of Avengers: Age of Ultron to unleash the second-ever look at the long-awaited return of Star Wars to the big screen.
For the past several weeks all we’ve heard on the Star Wars Episode 7 trailer front are rumors. Many, many rampant rumors running wild with no substance behind them. Anyone could run a Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer attached to Avengers post and it would appear legit because common sense dictates as much.
A couple days ago Regal Cinemas accidentally let the Rancor out of the bag. They tweeted an image of an upcoming Entertainment Weekly cover that included a Star Wars: Episode VII logo. The wording next to the logo read, “see the Star Wars trailer with The Avengers!”
The tweet, of course, was quickly removed, but not before the news spread faster than The Strain.
I’m willing to bet that we — as in everyone with an Internet connection — will get to watch the second Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens trailer before May 1 with Avengers: Age of Ultron. J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy are appearing on a special Star Wars: Episode VII panel during Star Wars Celebration in a couple weeks. That panel will be simulcast to outdoor venues in several locations in different countries. The trailer is widely expected to debut during this panel.
Even if Lucasfilm decides to not broadcast The Force Awakens trailer to the outside venues, surely someone at Celebration will capture the trailer and immediately put it on YouTube. Lucasfilm and Disney know this, so I’m anticipating — and hoping — that they follow AMC’s lead with The Walking Dead trailers at Comic-Con and put the Star Wars trailer online literally seconds or minutes after it premieres at Celebration.
No matter when we first get to see the second Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens trailer, the absolute latest we’ll have to wait is May 1 attached to Avengers: Age of Ultron. That alone should get the blood pumping.
