Villain Lockdown Speaks in Transformers: Age of Extinction TV Spot

Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction will introduce at least one new villain in the form a Lockdown, a mysterious bounty hunter who shows up with a massive fleet on Earth and a nefarious plan to execute. He’s the robot whose ships parks itself over Mark Wahlberg’s house in all the previous trailers, then he transforms into a big cannon and puts a shot squarely into the chest of Optimus Prime.

Lockdown’s only previous appearance in Transformers lore was in the Transformers: Animated television series and tie-in videogame. The Decepticon-for-hire was voice by Lance Henriksen of Aliens fame.

In this new Transformers: Age of Extinction TV spot titled “villain,” we get to hear the live-action version of Lockdown speak for the first time and his voice perfectly villainous. Mark Ryan (Black Sails) is voicing the character, the same guy who voiced Jetfire in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

This new TV spot is loaded with new footage including Lockdown rising out of a dark swamp, and piloting his fleet of vehicles into a city that they seem intent on leveling. Another look at these vehicles in a mountainous area reveals that they are either destroying the land or terraforming it into a Cybertronian-type landscape.

Though we get to see Lockdown and his minions, including robotic wolves (yes, plural), we don’t yet know who hired him to attack Earth. Galvatron is a confirmed character in Transformers: Age of Extinction that has yet to make an appearance. Some theorists, including myself, think that Unicron created Galvatron from the remains of Megatron and together they are targeting earth, using Lockdown to do the early dirty work.

Transformers: Age of Extinction stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor and Nicola Peltz, and arrives in theaters on June 27.
