Jordan Peele’s ‘Us’ Tops Estimates with Huge Friday Box Office Haul

Jordan Peele’s new horror movie Us starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke laughed in the face of box office estimates and grossed $29 million at the domestic box office on Friday.

The big head start raises the weekend estimates for Us for the mid-$40 million range all the way up to $65 to $70 million. If Us continues to overperform then it might smash right through $70 million.

The first horror film from Peele, Get Out, debuted to $33.4 million through its firsts three days. It sure looks like Us will at least double that mark. Get Out went on to earn $255.4 globally during its theatrical run.

With Us drawing big audiences, Disney’s Captain Marvel will drop to second place this weekend with somewhere around $32 million. Even so, Captain Marvel is at $825 million globally and continues to ascend toward $1 billion in box office business.
