A human exploration party wandered into the wrong neck of the woods in this first clip from Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
The scene depicted in the clip has appeared in the previous trailers, though here it is more fleshed out and uncut. In it, a band of humans have stumbled into the edge of the apes community and are met by a massive welcoming party. Tension runs high as the humans, led by Malcolm (Jason Clarke), try to persuade Caesar that they come in peace and mean no harm. The trailers tell us a peace will be forged, but its fragility will ultimately lead to its demise.
The CGI work to bring the apes to life in this clip is astounding. They look absolutely real perched amongst the trees, looking down upon the humans that they escaped from a decade earlier and haven’t seen since.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes from director Matt Reeves and also starring Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, and the mo-cap work of Andy Serkis, amongst others, arrives in theaters on July 11. The next and final Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will come online tomorrow evening.
