Lionsgate has rattled the cage of Divergent fans by changing the titles for the final two films and dispensing with the popular practice of breaking the final book in a trilogy into two separate films dubbed Parts 1 and 2.
Originally Lionsgate had titled the final two Divergent movies starring Shailene Woodley as The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Part 1 and The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 2. After the name change those same two films are now known as The Divergent Series: Allegiant and The Divergent Series: Ascendant.
Each of the new names comes with a tagline that has fans in a panic. The Allegiant tagline is fairly straightforward, “Break the Boundaries of Your World.” For Ascendant, a name not used in the title of the Divergent book series, the tagline may suggest studio tinkering with how the series will conclude, “The End is Never What You Expect.”
The Divergent Series: Allegiant will be first out the gate when it arrives in theaters on March 18. 2016. The Divergent Series: Ascendant will wrap up the four-film saga on March 24, 2017.
