Sony and Dwayne Johnson reaped huge rewards when Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle earned just under $1 billion in worldwide box office business.
Any film or reboot with those returns is ripe grow a franchise from, and sure enough a Jumanji sequel is already in the works.
Johnson aka The Rock confirmed via social media this past weekend that the creative team responsible for the first film has begun crafting the sequel. That team includes writer/director Jake Kasdan whose pitch is apparently hilarious; writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg; and producers Matt Tolmach, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia.
Sony has already tapped December 2019 as the target release date for Jumanji 2. That will put it right up against Star Wars: Episode IX from J.J. Abrams.
