The first trailer for the live-action Dora and the Lost City of Gold movie has arrived from Paramount Pictures, Paramount Players and Nickelodeon Movies.
Based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series Dora The Explorer, the movie ages Dora up into high school where she’s been sent to hide from nefarious treasure hunters after spending her entire youth to that point living in the jungle.
It’s a new look for Dora in this origin story as she and some friends are whisked away into a grand adventure that plays on the screen like an adolescent version of Tomb Raider. If successful this direction could spawn a franchise as Dora continues to age into her college years.
Isabela Moner is the first live-action Dora with Danny Trejo voicing Boots, her monkey. Yes, Boots will eventually talk like in the TV show, though he’s noticeably non-speaking in the trailer.
Rounding out the cast are Michael Peña and Eva Longoria as Dora’s parents, along with Eugenio Derbez, Adriana Barraza, Temuera Morrison, Jeff Wahlberg, Nicholas Coombe and Madeleine Madden.
There are unsubstantiated rumors that Swiper, Dora’s nemesis, will make some kind of appearance before the credits roll.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold is directed by James Bobin and arrives in theaters on August 2nd.
