Marvel’s Black Panther already has an amazing cast lined up but there’s always room for more.
Today Marvel Studios officially announced that Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett has boarded the project and Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. She’ll step into the shoes of Ramonda, none other than the mother of T’Challa, aka Black Panther.
Ramonda was the wife of T’Chaka, T’Challa’s father who was killed in front of his son’s eyes during the events of Captain America: Civil War. There’s a possibility that Ramonda will be affected by her husband’s death in a profound way like her son was.
Bassett will join Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke and Florence Kasumba. Ryan Coogler (Creed) is taking on directorial duties with filming expected to begin early next year.
You can currently catch Angela Bassett in recent reruns of FX’s American Horror Story: Roanoke.
Black Panther will claw its way into theaters on February 16, 2018, a relatively early Marvel date in a calendar year.
