Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Release Date Moved Out of 2015 and Into Next Year

Today’s big PS4 news is a bit of a downer but not wholly unexpected. In a nutshell, you unfortunately will not be taking control of Nathan Drake and playing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End during the holiday break later this year.

The Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End release date has been moved from this upcoming November to a broader spring 2016 window. The reason for this delay is as you might expect: Naughty Dog needs more time to get the game up to snuff, and it has turned out to be a more ambitious project than they initially scoped out.

Uncharted 4 sliding into next year doesn’t mean that there won’t be a “new” Uncharted game this upcoming holiday season. Naughty Dog and Sony could drop a bombshell at E3 in June and announce a triple pack of the three previous Uncharted games with remastered visuals for PS4. That would be a fantastic primer for Uncharted veterans and newbies alike to experience before heading into what Naughty Dog has been calling Nathan Drake’s final adventure.

Here’s the official statement regarding the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End release date delay from Neil Druckmann, Creative Director at Naughty Dog:

“Since we showed you our first gameplay reveal of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, more of the game and story have come together, and it’s become clear to us that this game is much more ambitious than we originally envisioned.

After spending so many years with Nathan Drake, he means a lot to the team, and telling the climactic chapter of his adventures is a task we don’t take lightly — this game deserves every bit of the attention to detail, precise pacing, and nuanced storytelling Naughty Dog is known for. So we’ve made the difficult choice of pushing the game’s release date. Giving us a few extra months will make certain that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End not only meets the team’s high standards, but the high standards that gamers have come to expect from a Naughty Dog title.
Thank you for your patience – we know the extra wait will be excruciating, but you’ll see it will be worth it as we reveal more about Uncharted 4 over the next year. The team at Naughty Dog will be heads down working through 2015 making sure that Nathan Drake’s story gets the closure it deserves. Come Spring 2016, you and Nate are in for one thrilling, emotional ride.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End joins Project Cars as two high profile upcoming games that have been delayed today. The increasing complexity of triple-A titles will surely deliver more delays as the year wears on.
