Out of nowhere this past weekend, at PlayStation Experience 2016, developer Naughty Dog announced they are working hard on The Last of Us Part II.
The video below opens to a forest and dilapidated car. After the Naughty Dog logo, the insanely well done graphics we have come to love from them opens to a person’s battered hand shaking and closing to a fist. They then start to tune a guitar.
The tattooed arm slowly starts to play and we see that it’s a young woman. She starts to sing as blood runs down her cheek. As the camera pans around the building, we see bodies all over the place.
Joel enters and asks her if she “is really going to go through with this?” An older Ellie puts down the guitar and says “I’m gonna find, and kill, every last one of them.”
Pretty amazing stuff and I for one am looking forward to it. The Last of Us Part II is in early development according to Sony’s Shawn Layden and described as a “ways off” from Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann. “I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special–a story that evolved into an epic journey.” Druckmann added.
The Last of Us Part II is a direct sequel to the the 2013 Playstation 3 release, The Last of Us, and is available for Playstation 4 as The Last of Us Remastered. If you haven’t played it yet, it’s a must, and one of my personal favorites.
