Resident Evil Remastered to Mesh Old and New in Early 2015

The video game industry trend of revisiting popular and proven top selling titles for new audiences is alive and well. Today Capcom announced Resident Evil Remastered is in the works, and in a true sign of the times, the game will only be available to own exclusively via digital download.

Capcom’s internal sales numbers suggest that over 61 million copies of Resident Evil franchise games have been sold since the original game was first introduced in 1996. That first classic Resident Evil was initially remastered in 2002, which by today’s gaming standards is several console cycles and an eternity’s worth of technological evolution away.

This new Resident Evil Remastered is being built for current generation consoles Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as new-gen consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. The new-gen versions will support 1080p visuals, and all versions will see an upgrade to 5.1 surround sound.

Capcom understands that Resident Evil Remastered must service the nostalgic and modern gamer alike. As such, players will be able to play in the original 4:3 aspect ratio as well as 16:9. The original game’s classic control scheme is intact and complimented by a new control scheme utilizing the analog sticks. Both classic vs modern options can be toggled between at any point in the game.

The Resident Evil Remastered release date in North America and Europe will fall somewhere in early 2015.
