Sony and San Diego Studio has announced the cover star for next year’s MLB: The Show, and it is none other than legendary Seattle Mariner, and now MLB Hall of Famer, Ken Griffey, Jr.! Griffey, who was inducted into Cooperstown this past July by the largest vote in MLB history (he was 0.3% away from being the first unanimous vote), has not graced the cover of a video game since the days of the Super Nintendo, when he starred in three games for Nintendo, who, at the time, owned the Seattle Mariners.

The MLB: The Show 17 Griffey cover announcement also came with news regarding the various versions of the game, including some store exclusives, which will include many different whistles and bells, depending on which version you go with. The most obvious is the Gamestop-exclusive Hall of Fame Edition, which comes with a physical New Era snap-back hat, a steelbook case that resembles Griffey’s Mariners uniform, and a cornucopia of Stubs, packs, 31 PS4 team themes, and other goodies, making this the definitive edition of MLB: The Show 17. It retails for $99.99.

The Sony Playstation Store also gets its own exclusive digital deluxe version, which comes with more standard packs, but no case and no physical hat. This version also retails for $99.99.

The MLB: The Show 17 MVP Edition contains the game, the steelbook case, 31 MLB team themes, and Stubs and packs to get you going. This edition retails for $69.99. The standard edition includes the game and the beautiful cover featuring Ken Griffey, Jr. It retails for $59.99.

All versions come with pre-order bonuses including more packs, more Stubs, and a digital Ken Griffey, Jr. card. MLB: The Show 17 will hit stores on March 28, 2017, just as Spring Training is ending and the new MLB season is looming. Below is the short announcement trailer for the game. The Canadian cover will be announced at a later date, but given the popularity of Griffey all throughout baseball, it would not be a stretch to see him adorn both covers in 2017 like the Blue Jays’ Josh Donaldson did this year.

MLB: The Show 17 is a Playstation 4 exclusive and will be in stores on March 28, 2017. We will have more coverage of the game as Sony and San Diego Studio releases information as the long, cold, baseball-less winter goes on.
