Microsoft has released the first Gears of War 4 story trailer that connects the first Xbox One game in the franchise to the original Gears of War trilogy on Xbox 360 by the way of family bloodlines.
Dubbed the Gears of War 4 Tomorrow trailer, it begins with a soldier running through the woods while a pack of creatures gives chase. The soldier is a new character we hadn’t seen in the original Gears of War games set roughly 25 years prior to this one.
As the soldier runs for his life, the trailer cuts to the past where Marcus Fenix, his wife — presumably Anya — and a young boy are having fun in their expansive yard. The boy runs toward Marcus while the action cuts back to the man in the woods. Clearly the boy and the soldier are one in the same.
Marcus wondered what “tomorrow” would bring at the conclusion of Gears of War 3 and this trailer gives us the first indication that all is most definitely not well. His son is on the run and ends up at the family’s old home, taking refuge behind a fallen tree that his father once carved his initials into.
The Gears of Wars 4 story trailer features Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound of Silence‘ song covered by Disturbed. It works perfectly with the dark and ominous tone developer The Coalition is aiming for with the trailer.
Gears of War 4 arrives October 11th on Xbox One. The multiplayer beta kicks off later this month.
