Disney Infinity 3.0 is taking a page out of the Skylanders playbook this holiday season with the introduction of Disney Infinity 3.0 Light FX figures, a limited edition set of six Star Wars characters whose lightsabers literally light up when placed on the Disney Infinity Base. The announcement came from D23 this past weekend.
The Skylanders franchise introduced this tech with their LightCore figures that ran for two games but was dropped with Skylanders Trap Team. One of the problems Activision ran into with LightCore was there were two different versions of each character available; a LightCore and a non-LightCore. Shoppers were electing to go for the cheaper version more often than not.
Avalanche Software and Disney Interactive are taking a similar yet slightly different approach with their Light FX line. Each of the six characters including Kanan, Luke, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin have the exact same pose as their non-Light FX versions. In the Skylanders line the LightCore figures had unique poses.
There are some noticeable absent Jedi and Sith characters in the Light FX line. Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul were likely left out due to each having two lightsaber blades. I’m assuming Ezra didn’t make the cut as two Star Wars Rebels figures might have been risky.
Disney Infinity 3.0 Light FX figure pricing and exact availability are still unknown at this time. All I can share is that Disney Interactive plans to have them out for this upcoming holiday season so I would expect a street date in either November or early December.
