Ubisoft made the official Assassin’s Creed 3 (i.e. Assassin’s Creed III) announcement today following a Best Buy leak last week that showed an assassin in an American Revolutionary War setting.
Here’s what we know about Assassin’s Creed 3 at this time. The game features a new assassin, Ratohnhake:ton, of Native American and English heritage, who will adopt the name Connor during the game. He becomes the “new voice of justice in the ancient war between the Assassins and the Templars.” The action will take place in settings throughout the late 18th century American Revolution, from small frontier towns to famous battlefields.
Ubisoft has been working on Assassin’s Creed 3 for over three years and it is their biggest game ever produced. Ubisoft Montreal is spearheading the development efforts with help from six other Ubisoft studios.
Powering Assassin’s Creed 3 is the all-new Ubisoft-AnvilNext, Ubisoft’s next generation engine. It will deliver the best character models, graphics and artificial intelligence seen in an Ubisoft game to date.
Assassin’s Creed 3 will be available October 30, 2012 on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PC. Development is underway on a Wii U version as well, but a release date is not currently known. I suspect Nintendo is pushing for Assassin’s Creed 3 to be a Wii U launch title sometime before Christmas.
