One of the new IP’s Electronic Arts unveiled during their E3 EA Play press and gamer event yesterday was BioWare’s Anthem, a seemingly ambitious game immediately drawing comparisons to Bungie’s Destiny and Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn.
The Anthem trailer teases a technological settlement surrounded by a wild, untamed frontier. Its hero image is of four armored warriors jumping into the unknown where enemy threats await. The single sentence official description reads, “Explore a landscape of primeval beauty, confront the dangers you find, and grow in power with every step.”
That’s all EA was willing to offer as far as Anthem is concerned. In an odd move they promised more of Anthem would be revealed at Microsoft’s press conference this afternoon.
Obvious questions raised by this turn of events are is Anthem a Project Scorpio and Xbox One exclusive? A timed exclusive? Coming this year or next?
What Anthem’s brief partial unveiling confirms is EA’s big bet on the competitive gaming arena with a futuristic shooter to compliment Battlefield 1 and Star Wars Battlefront II. With the continuing explosion of eSports that even Nintendo couldn’t ignore, can you blame them?
