Hasbro Studios has entered into an agreement with Shout! Factory that will finally let you cross the phantom Transformers: The Movie Blu-ray release off your most wanted list.
The multi-year alliance grants Shout! Factory exclusive packaged home media (Blu-ray and DVD) and select digital channels rights to Transformers: The Movie. It’s unclear how long the pact will last but at the very least it will deliver the long-awaited Transformers: The Movie Blu-ray in widescreen on September 13th, 2016 in conjunction with the film’s 30th anniversary this year.
Transformers: The Movie wasn’t a box office success but has turned into a cult classic over the years. It features the last role for the late Orson Welles as the planet-consuming Transformer Unicron, and also features other notable talents including Peter Cullen, Eric Idle, Casey Kasem, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Robert Stack and Frank Welker.
Shout! Factory will not take this release lightly and is currently working hard on special packaging and an array of bonus features for the upcoming Blu-ray release. Befitting such a highly anticipated Blu-ray, Transformers: The Movie will be newly remastered and transferred in HD from the original 35mm elements.
We’ll have more to share on the upcoming Transformers: The Movie 30th Anniversary Blu-ray release later this summer.
