With Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens igniting a new era of Star Wars films and merchandise later this year, it was inevitable that Fox Home Entertainment would make use of their remaining years holding the Star Wars home video rights to re-release the first six films on home video for the umpteenth style.
If you’re going to release Star Wars on Blu-ray again then you had best give fans the original theatrical versions or offer up some incredible packaging. Fox is one for two as far as that’s concerned.
On November 10, about five weeks before The Force Awakens arrives, you will be able to purchase new steelbook versions of all six existing Star Wars films. Each steelbook features an iconic character on its cover with five of the six films being represented by villains. Only Attack of the Clones with Yoda breaks the evil streak.
All of these Star Wars steelbooks will be available in limited quantities only and will be available for pre-order beginning on Friday, August 7. Each is packed with hours worth of existing bonus features, but none bring anything new to the table.
Additionally, on October 13 you will be able to purchase a newly packaged versions of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray. Of course it’s no longer the Complete Saga with multiple additional films on the way, but will make for a good holdover and primer for The Force Awakens.
