A spark of rebellion grows into something much more in Star Wars Rebels Season 1, the Lucasfilm animated series on Disney XD set roughly five years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. If you missed the fun first season on cable TV then set your calendar for September 1st as that is now the official Star Wars Rebels Season 1 Blu-ray and DVD release date.
Star Wars Rebels introduces us to Ezra Bridger, a force-sensitive orphan living on the Empire-controlled planet of Lothal. Ezra steals to survive and ends up crossing paths with a Jedi in hiding, Kanan, and his band of rebel fighters including the hilariously grumpy droid, Chopper. As Ezra joins the group and they strike against the Empire, bigger forces on both sides take notice of their handy work.
Star Wars Rebels is created by Dave Filoni of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Simon Kinberg, and Carrie Beck. Greg Weisman of Gargoyles fame serves as an executive producer. The voice cast includes Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan, Vanessa Marshall as Hera, Steve Blum as Zeb, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, Taylor Gray as Ezra, David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus and Jason Isaacs as the Inquisitor.
