Paramount secured the home video distribution rights to Richard Linklater’s Boyhood back in August, and now they’ve set Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD release dates with one of the larger gaps between digital and physical media that we’ve seen thus far.
The Boyhood Digital HD release date is set for December 9, in plenty of time for the holiday break. However, the Blu-ray and DVD edition won’t be available to own until January 6, 2015, a full month later.
Boyhood was shot over the course of 12 years with Ellar Coltran, Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette, and Lorelei Linklater playing the same role throughout the duration of the shoot. What’s most amazing about the 12-year shoot is Coltran was six-years old when it began and 19 for the final act.
Details are scarce on the Boyhood Blu-ray combo pack at this time as the announcement came through USA Today first and won’t be fully made until most likely Monday. We do know extras include an in-depth look at making the film, and a Q&A with Linklater and the cast at the very least.
Boyhood is already up at Amazon.com with pricing for the Blu-ray, DVD and Digital combo pack.
