Fox Home Entertainment is expanding their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray catalog offerings this June with the release of the recently announced Independence Day 20th Anniversary Edition from director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin in the new 4K home video format on June 7th.
If you’re planning on picking up the Blu-ray edition of Independence Day 20th Anniversary Edition a month earlier on May 3rd and have the intention of upgrading to 4K UHD Blu-ray by year’s end — like myself — then you may want to rethink that strategy. Fox is packaging the Independence Day 4K UHD Blu-ray with the complete two-disc Blu-ray 20th anniversary edition so you’ll get the best of both worlds in the same package ahead of Independence Day: Resurgence hitting cinemas on June 24th.
The Independence Day 4K UHD Blu-ray combo pack includes the theatrical and newly restored extended cuts in 4K as well as 1080p Blu-ray. Audio is DTS: X, while bonus features include the following:
- All-new 30-Minute Documentary – Independence Day: A Legacy Surging Forward (Featured on Disc Two of Blu-ray)
- Commentary with Director Roland Emmerich and Producer Dean Devlin
- Commentary with VFX Supervisors Volker Engel and Doug Smith
- Datastream Trivia Track
