Ex Machina Blu-ray, DVD and Digital to Debut DTS:X Audio This July

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced a July 14, 2015 release date for writer and director Alex Garland’s 2015 SXSW sensatiion, Ex Machina.

Starring Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens), Alicia Vikander and Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: Episode 7 as well), Ex Machina tells the story of a gifted computer programmer (Gleeson) who wins a week at his company’s CEO’s retreat. There he finds himself part of an experiment to interact with a seductive android (Vikander) in an artificial intelligence experiment that goes further than he could have ever imagined.

The Ex Machina Blu-ray release is a combo pack with Digital HD ($24.98 SRP) while the DVD edition ($19.98 SRP) also comes bundled with a Digital HD copy.

In a home video first, the Ex Machina Blu-ray features a new audio format to combat Dolby Atmos directly, DTS:X audio. Lionsgate’s press release describes DTS:X having the ability to “replicate and convey the fluid movement of sound to create a richer soundscape than previously possible by moving sound to precisely where the mixer placed it.” This audio will playback on receivers that decode DTS-HD Master Audio. Other audio options included are DTS Headphone:X Audio and English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray and DVD combo editions are as follows:

  • “Through the Looking Glass: Creating Ex Machina” 5-Part Featurette
  • SXSW Q&A with Cast and Crew
  • Eight Behind-the-Scenes Vignettes
