Technically speaking Disney Infinity 3.0 doesn’t exist yet in any official capacity even though multiple folks at developer Avalanche Software have made numerous mentions of the game’s existence and development. Fans are hungry for information about the game ahead of its imminent announcement between now and E3 in June. Some even scoured the Internet for retailer leaks, and a few found success.
Two images from Chinese retailer Taobao clearly depict multiple Disney Infinity 3.0 characters in what appear to be their final form. All of the figures are part of the Toy Box, i.e. they will only work in the Toy Box portion of the game and won’t be backward compatible with the previous two Disney Infinity games.
While likely not a complete Disney Infinity 3.0 characters list and more indicative of the launch figures, the images reveal Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in their classic outfits, Quorra and Sam Flynn from Tron Legacy, the Disney princess Mulan, Olaf from Frozen, and each of the five “emotions” from Pixar’s upcoming summer film Inside Out.
A second image shows the packaging for Mickey Mouse and Mulan in a new black color scheme with a purplish starry background.
The the black packaging lends further evidence that the core theme of Disney Infinity 3.0 will be Star Wars and the bulk of figures and Play Sets will revolve around that theme. Well, duh considering the second Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens tallied 88 million views in 24 hours.
Disney Interactive has been frantically chasing the leak all day long but at this point it’s become an epidemic. There’s no stopping it, so it will be curious to see how their publicity and marketing teams react.
Last year on April 30, 2014, Disney Interactive held a special event in Los Angeles to formally announce Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes with multiple Marvel dignitaries participating. Thus far we’ve received no word of a similar event planned for 3.0 and we’re only nine days away from the anniversary of last year’s announcement.
