Nintendo is banking heavily on the return of Super Smash Bros. to fuel new Wii U sales when the latest version of the classic fighter starring Nintendo characters is released later this year. Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS is so important that Nintendo is dedicating an entire Nintendo Direct this Tuesday to the game.
What can we expect from an all-Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct? I would expect several new features to be announced, probably one new playable character, and new gameplay footage from the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game.
What I wouldn’t expect is a release date, though Nintendo could most certainly surprise. E3 in early June seems a more likely time for Nintendo to reveal when Super Smash Bros. will arrive in stores, and given the game’s high priority for Nintendo, I would expect to see it in November to take advantage of the holiday shopping season.
The Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct is this upcoming Tuesday, April 8 at 6pm EST / 3pm PST. You can watch the Nintendo Direct online live streaming here.
