Emma Watson decided to put a swift end to the rampant rumors over the past several days that linked her to the Anastasia Steele role in Universal’s 50 Shades of Grey movie adaptation based on the erotic book by E. L. James on Saturday night..
The female and male leads for the highly anticipated first of three to four potential movies have been fuel for outlandish rumors dating back to mid-last year. Numerous Hollywood A-listers have been linked to the parts and thus far every one of them has been way off the mark.
The truth is there’s no factual information floating around out there stating where Universal is in the casting process. For all we know Watson’s name was mumbled during a cocktail hour as a joke by a Universal executive and the Internet ran with it as if it were gospel. That’s what the Internet does; blow rumors and hearsay out of proportion.
The end of the Emma Watson as Anastasia Steele rumors began Saturday night when the actress took to Twitter and tweeted the following to her nearly 5.9 million followers and fans:
Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life.

On Sunday morning, Emma Watson followed that up by tweeting, “Good. Well that’s that sorted them. :)” Yes, the extra “that” was a typo. Celebrities make mistakes, too.
Hopefully the next young lady to get caught up in the 50 Shades of Grey rumor mill will likewise spot the rumor and end it. Or better yet, Universal can get moving on the film and start to make some announcements of their own.
