Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. 2 is all about collecting as many gold coins as possible. Naturally a new promotion tied to the game’s launch also revolves around golden coinage.
Club Nintendo members (it’s free if you haven’t signed up yet) who purchase New Super Mario Bros. 2 for DS, 3DS or the upcoming 3DS XL will receive 50 coins in their account. However, members who purchase the digital download version of the full game will receive double the coins: 100.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the first physical disc/card retail game that Nintendo is offering a digital download alternate via the Nintendo eShop. This promotion proves that Nintendo is pushing the eShop download version over the more traditional retail option (to cut out the middle man and other manufacturing costs, of course). The downside to this version is households with multiple DS systems won’t be able to share the game between them.
In order to take advantage of the double coins, you must purchase the digital download version of the game between its August 19 release date and September 20.
