Entertainment Weekly promised and delivered a first look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movie today as she will appear on the cover of their May print edition.
The photo depicts Jennifer as Katniss in presumably her combat outfit with bow and arrows slung over her shoulder. It was taken within the last week as Lawrence wrapped up archery and tracking training in Los Angeles.
Jennifer’s noticeably darker complexion looks partially Photoshopped in the image, especially in her face. She’ll likely be dirtied up for the actual shoot versus cleaner promotional images like this one.
The most remarkable transformation isn’t Jennifer’s hair from blonde to a dark brown. She’s definitely slimmed down for the coveted role compared to her appearance in Winter’s Bone and X-Men: First Class, and that’s just based on her face and neck.
The Hunger Games begins shooting this week in the woods of western North Carolina. Expect a flood of on-location images to start popping up online in the coming days and weeks, all the more reason why Lionsgate likely chose to get an official image out of Jennifer as Katniss before one leaked online.
In addition to Jennifer Lawrence, The Hunger Games will star Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson. It opens on March 23, 2012.
