Pre-production on Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi thriller Prometheus is in full swing and no matter how much he wants us to believe it only has “strands of DNA” from when the project was a prequel to Alien before Lost’s Damon Lindelof came on board to rework the script, evidence continues to mount that the two films are set in the same universe.
The latest rumor to hit the ‘Net claims a source has confirmed that the enormous and iconic Space Jockey seen in a decrepit form in the beginning of Alien will be a fully realized being in Prometheus. Not only that but the original Alien film designer H.R. Giger is on board as a consultant and is advising on the creation of a living and breathing Space Jockey.
This source goes on to report that the Space Jockey has been built as an eight-foot animatronic that will be meshed with CGI to create the finished effect. But apparently the Space Jockey ship will be piloted by a giant semi-human head. I’m not sure what to make of that as it sounds a bit wonky, even for Ridley Scott. Unless the semi-human head being referenced is actually the Space Jockey. It’s hard to tell based on how the scoop is written.
As of now the Prometheus core cast has been partially filled. Confirmed cast members include Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) and Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) and Charlize Theron. Scoot McNairy is reportedly in negotiations for a part as well.
