When Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Kinect peripheral went up for pre-order at Amazon.com earlier this year, it immediately shot to the #1 spot on the outlet’s hourly bestseller chart for video games and remained there for several days. But when Sony’s PS3 Move motion controller went up for pre-order, it failed to crack the top 10.
In fact, Move had been a no-show on Amazon’s video games bestseller charts until a couple days before its release this past weekend. Rather than peak at its release and taper off, Move is actually gaining sales momentum heading into today.
As of this morning, Move and Move accessories occupy the third, fourth and fifth video game bestsellers sales slots at Amazon after occupying the fourth, sixth and seven slots on Friday. The Playstation Move Starter Bundle that includes Sports Champions is the top seller while an extra Move control and the optional navigational controller are close behind.
Even the Playstation 3 Move Console bundle is picking up momentum, now sitting at spot 20 on the sales chart.
Move is no Halo: Reach whose sales are astronomical. However, it finding its way into the top 10 and then moving up shows that people who bought it not only like it, but are recommending it to their friends.
It will be interesting to see where Move stands a week or two from now once the “newness” factor wears off. Can word of mouth keep its sales running strong?
