Marvel was nothing but shy about sharing some of the designs from their upcoming Thor and Captain America: The First Avengers films. The entire Odin’s throne set from Thor was on display along with the Destroyer and helmets for Thor, Loki and Odin.
Captain America is still early in the shooting phase of production so there wasn’t quite as much to show. What did make its way to San Diego is Captain America’s shield with a distinctive metallic shimmer and pair of leather straps on the back for Cap’s forearms to latch into.
Another Captain America goodie popped up in a less obvious place. While interviewing Hugo Weaving (The Red Skull, Chris Evans (Captain America) and director Joe Johnston, Entertainment Weekly was able to get Johnston to whip out his cell phone and share a first look at the Hydra logo from the film. According to Johnston, Red Skull will be the leader (and possibly founder) of the terrorist organization Hydra which plays a big role in the Marvel universe as an adversary of S.H.I.E.L.D. In 1942 when the majority of Captain America is set, Hydra is expected to resemble Nazi soldiers who work alongside Red Skull. That could change should the organization still exist in modern times and appear in The Avengers.
