I have been fairly skeptical about the arrival of New Super Mario Bros. Wii for no reason better than an all-new Mario adventure is much higher on my wish list. Now that the game is scoring high almost unanimously, Nintendo’s tuneups and carefully implemented little touches to an old favorite have caught my attention.
Over at MetaCritic.com, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is currently holds a metascore of 8.8 with an even higher user score of 9.3. 1Up and Nintendo Life have each bestowed the game with perfect scores while 14 other outlets and publications have scored it a 9.0 or higher.
A similar ranking has popped up at GameRankings.com which includes a few more niche gaming sites in is aggregate score of 88.5%. Like MetaCritic, the lowest score showing is currently 70%.
Game analyst firm EEDAR has already predicted that sometime next year, New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Activision’s Modern Warfare 2. Based on these scores, the number of Wii consoles already in homes and the impending Christmas shopping season, I’m starting to become a believer in this pseudo new Mario game.
