Will Smith is potentially teaming up with his I Am Legend director Francis in the upcoming film City That Sailed per Variety. Though no deal is done, the film is being developed with Smith in mind and he is already on board as a producer.
City That Sailed is a literal translation of its name in which a father and daughter separated by an ocean miss each other so much that Manhattan literally breaks off and beings sailing across the Atlantic.
Truman Show screenwriter Andrew Niccol penned a script which Brian Koppelman and David Levien of Ocean’s Thirteen fame will soon rewrite. Twentieth Century Fox, no stranger to releasing films with city-scale special effects, will distribute.
Lawrence should look no further than the effects crew responsible for breaking continental shelves in Roland Emmerich’s 2012 trailer when it comes time to snap off Manhattan. I can’t wait to see that sequence on the big screen.
