Japan’s Nikkei Shimbun newspaper is reporting today that Nintendo plans to release a new entry in the Mario franchise on Nintendo Wii later this year.
Though no additional information was offered, the most logical assumption is the new Mario would be a full-fledged platformer ala Super Mario Galaxy and not one of the spin-off games. If true, the game would mark only the second appearance for Mario in his own adventure game on Wii since the console launched.
Nikkei is also reporting a new Wii Fit game is coming this fall which matches other rumors swirling about Wii Fit Plus. The new version should include online functionality allowing fitness challenges against friends and improved motion control, most likely utilizing Wii MotionPlus.
Now the cat is out of Sony’s bag on the PSP Go and Nintendo’s big Wii announcements. If Microsoft’s Motion Camera rumors pan out to be true then E3 participants may have suffered their biggest leaks since the show’s inception.
