Teen heartthrob Taylor Lautner will be back to reprise the role of Jacob Black in the Twilight sequel New Moon per an announcement by director Chris Weitz despite Internet chatter suggesting the role would be recast.
Apparently in the second, third and fourth books, Lautner’s character undergoes a physical transformation that will add 10 years, height and bulk. Lautner’s small size and youthful looks goes against this evolution.
Weitz has faith in Lautner and his willingness to hit the gym hard and put on 19 pounds of muscle before production begins this year. He stated, “It is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part.”
More casting announcements are expected to roll in any day with a release date only 11 months off.
