Pixar’s Wall*E came into the weekend with an 800 theater advantage over Universal’s Wanted and took advantage, winning the number one spot with a hefty $62.5 million per box office estimates.
Wanted wasn’t too shabby, either, snatching $51.2 million and enjoying a $500 per-screen average higher than Wall*E thanks in part to its R-Rating more suited for evening showings when ticket prices are higher.
Though Wall*E came out on top, executives at Universal are probably throwing the bigger celebration. Wanted cost an estimated $75 million to make, less than half the $180 million price tag Disney and Pixar had for Wall*E.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Get Smart held strong in a $20 million take, upping its total box office take to over $77 million.
The big losers are M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, Mike Myers The Love Guru and Adam Sandler’s You Don’t Mess With the Zohan, all of which are headed towards a quick theatrical exit with $3.9, $5.4 and $3.2 million takes respectively.

The extended July 4 weekend will see Will Smith’s Hancock attempt to single-handedly take a chunk out of Wanted and Wall*E’s dominance with an early Wednesday head start on July 2. Look for the HDR Hancock review tomorrow (Monday).
