The Witcher Coming to PS3, Xbox 360: First Screens and Trailer

The Witcher’s days of being exclusive to the PC are coming to an end. Today Atari formally announced The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 in the fall of 2009.

The popular PC franchise is being rebuilt from the ground up for consoles, pixel-by-pixel. Developer CD Projekt RED is incorporating a new combat system, no doubt to better match gaming controllers versus a keyboard, as well as all-new visuals generated from a new engine that will deliver a film-like presentation.

In The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, based on the universe created by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, players step into the role of professional monster slayer Geralt who uses his witcher training to avenge an attack on an outcast brotherhood of witchers.

To compliment the announcement, Atari has passed along the first high resolution screenshots and a preview trailer from the console build. You can check out both below.

We’ll have more on The Witcher’s jump to consoles in the months ahead.
